If you’ve followed me for any time at all or looked around my website, I’m sure you’ve seen some reference to a “Celebrate Women” photo session. The question is, what does that mean? Really, it means a lot of things, so let me break it down for you.
We live in a very commercialized society which means being constantly bombarded with ads and people telling us (sometimes subtly, sometimes outright) that we need to look or act a certain way to be beautiful or successful. I refuse to buy into that! Every single one of us is amazing in her own way and right. What makes us different, or unique as individuals, is where we find our best attributes. Celebrate Women is a perfect way to remind you of that— or if you already know how fabulous you are, it’s in the name, let’s celebrate you!
Boudoir photography has taken the world by storm, but why do we need to be in fancy lingerie to feel beautiful? What are we supposed to do with those pictures? Celebrate Women is a way of pampering yourself and getting glammed up for photographs you can proudly display in your home and pass on to your children and grandchildren. Remember “GlamourShots” of 80’s fame? Let’s create something a bit more timeless and less likely to invite merciless mocking.
Digital cameras and smart phones have made taking pictures more popular and accessible. The problem with that is, most people don’t have training as photographers and the most photographed generation in history also has the lowest self-esteem. Unflattering angles, lighting and wide angle lenses have left people thinking that selfie is how they actually look. Occasionally, I’m accused of ‘over-photoshopping’ an image when I’ve barely even touched it. When I show them the before and after, they are blown away by how beautiful they are naturally.
Being confident and loving ourselves is vital to a happy, healthy lifestyle but there are other women in our lives we should celebrate too. No matter the age, mother-daughter relationships are precious. As a mother-daughter run business, we obviously appreciate the importance of that relationship. Sisters, cousins, best friends… there are so many important women in our lives and so we created Celebrate Women as a way of honoring those individuals. Spending time together and walking away with priceless images that document the beautiful dynamics of your relationship, it’s that simple. Let’s talk brutal truth… those women may not always be around, so how much more important to create heirloom photographs to look back on once they’re gone.
